Smart City, the future starts today
Our cities often were described like great super-technological and super populated metropolis, with automated systems for everything. It’s not quite like that yet, but in many cases the road is traced.
What we call today Smart Cities is a project for cities of the future, in many cases already of the present, which considers various aspects belonging to areas that are very different.
And if we were to describe our cities in twenty or thirty years? It is possible today to lay the foundations not to miss the appointment with the future and talk about reality and not about science fiction?
We have already discussed this topic at other times, but for the success of a Smart City it is necessary that every aspect is connected and that everyone has the theme of sustainability as its fulcrum. Each component of what will be the city of the future must meet this parameter for a simple reason: it is expected that the world population will increase and that will be the cities to have a great increase in population.
⭕️ So that everyone can enjoy the benefits of the Smart City but above all to deliver a cleaner and more genuine world to future generations, it is necessary to avoid waste and technologies that produce unusable waste and which contribute to pollution.
⭕️ Sustainability means implementing policies that guarantee, in every aspect of daily life, respect for the environment in which we live and for the welfare of all of us.
Imagining a walk in a hypothetical city of the future we can expect to see new public green spaces with lighting and intelligent bins, zero emissions and reduced fuel consumption in buildings, self-sufficient, resistant and technologically advanced, but much more.
Agriculture of the future and reduction of waste
The future of agriculture will be increasingly in symbiosis with the context of the Smart City. In some cities there are already new spaces to adapt crops to the urban environment.
➡️ Vertical farming is an example; according to many it will eliminate pollution created by the transport of products from cultivated fields to cities, producing what we need directly in our home.
➡️ Positive effects are found throughout the urban environment, from the environmental point of view, balancing the atmospheric balance and reducing the impact of urban pollution, and regarding the reduction of food waste.
➡️ The reduction of waste it must be a cornerstone in a city of the future: what remains must not become something to be discarded, but it must be able to be transformed as much as possible in a resource in order to reach energy self-sufficiency.
Let’s forget for a moment the flying cars (yet to come) and we shift our attention to what, with the increase of the city population, represent a serious problem to which the Administrations will have to dedicate the maximum attention: traffic management.
Policies for sustainable traffic management in many cases are still insufficient, with very high levels of smog and a huge number of cars on the roads.
Every city is trying to best solve this problem, but in any case the issue of Smart Cities is always linked to that of the Smart Parking.
⭕️ Various urban mobility services must be able to communicate with each other, integrating information and allowing citizens to have a complete vision of the possibilities of movement, allowing to spend less time and less money.
⭕️ Within this vision the Smart Parking allows to those looking for parking to avoid unnecessary rides and therefore waste of fuel and increased gas emissions, to get directly to the free parking lot and to access immediately to any other services.
➡️ It means cleaner air, less traffic, greater social well-being and more revenue for the Administration, in one word: sustainability.
The secret to create a city of the future is to consider it already a city of the present; implement immediately policies but also virtuous behavior to turn science fiction into reality.
